On the 11th July 2011 the Malta Boxing Commission became to official EBU member the EBU Annual Conference in Dublin, Ireland &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofmalta.com\/article\/Malta-Commission-accepted-as-EBU-member-after-Dublin-vote.373616\">click here to read Time of Malta report.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/maltaboxingcommission.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Malta Boxing Commission<\/a>&nbsp;(MBC)<\/strong>&nbsp;is&nbsp;the officially recognised professional boxing sanctioning organisation in the Republic of Malta. Founded on&nbsp;<strong>10 June 2011<\/strong>, the commission governs the licensing of professional fighters, coaches, promoters, and ring officials while establishing medical protection standards across the sport.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key Governance &amp; Contacts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4\"><strong>Leadership<\/strong>: The organisation operates today under Chairman Charlie Cardona and President Tim Witherspoon and Chief Medical Officer Dr Mark Xuereb oversees boxer safety. Whilst I retain the honorary Vice President role I no longer am involved in day to day running of the commission <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5\"><strong>Headquarters<\/strong>: Located at 10 Christef Flats, Triq il-Maskli, Qawra, San Pawl il-Ba\u0127ar, Malta<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Core Regulatory Functions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7\"><strong>Regulatory Rules<\/strong>: Follows the&nbsp;<strong>Unified Rules and Regulations for Professional Boxing<\/strong>. It employs identical medical and safety standards to the Association of Professional Boxing Commissions (APBC).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8\"><strong>Licensing Procedures<\/strong>: Issues licenses for professional fighters, trainers, referees, and promoters. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9\"><strong>Event Oversight<\/strong>: Mandates strict administrative compliance. Official promoter-boxer agreements covering bout length, weight ranges, and pay must be delivered to the commission at least&nbsp;<strong>one hour prior<\/strong>&nbsp;to any live event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-10 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Affiliations &amp; History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-11 wp-block-paragraph\">The MBC has established a varied historical footprint within international boxing governance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-12 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sanctioned Championships<\/strong>: Promotes its own&nbsp;<strong>MBC International Championship<\/strong>&nbsp;path while maintaining active sanctioning ties across regional and world championship organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-13 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EBU &amp; APBC Inductions<\/strong>: Initially affiliated with the&nbsp;<strong>European Boxing Union (EBU)<\/strong>&nbsp;in 2011. The MBC chose to cut ties with the EBU in 2012 over regulatory disagreements surrounding external fight sanctions.
